Pilate’s Cross takes "murder in a small town" to a new level in this generation-spanning tale of death, deceit and the art of finding yourself while lost.
Pilate's Cross had a very interesting and intriguing story line. Just unusual enough to whet the appetite for more; to see where it was going. Suspenseful enough to keep one from putting the book (ebook) down. Certainly a captivating mystery--A good Who Done It?--with lots of twists making the reader wait until the last for the solution to the crime(s).

Great book! Didn't want to put it down and couldn't wait to get back to it! I am looking forward to the next story of John Pilate and friends.

Excellent read! I felt like I was watching the story unfold from over John Pilate's shoulder. By the time both Pilate and I figured out that he'd dug himself into a hole he wasn't easily getting out of, I was hooked. I spent several late nights unable to stop turning pages. I highly recommend the book, and can't wait for the next one.

LOVED it! It's the kind of book that makes you wish for a snow day or the case of the sniffles to keep you in bed reading it through! The characters are believable. The story is robust with enough foreshadowing to keep you on pace with the action, but not so much that it is condescending!

The characters are so real to me--they're like people I've come across in my life.

John Pilate is recovering from clinical depression and a nasty divorce at a teaching job in a bucolic college town. Out of sheer boredom, he stumbles into a decades-old murder conspiracy.
The college's president was murdered mere days after JFK's assassination, a mystery which still has loose ends more than forty years later. Pilate begins digging into the mystery with the help of the lovely and well-connected Kate, a fellow instructor.
Together they discover a grave robbery, the desecration of two corpses and a savage assault on an elderly mortician. Pilate and Kate's amateur investigation begins to upset the town fathers and the Cross College president. To make matters worse, a sarcastic “imaginary friend” called Simon dogs Pilate with caustic commentary that both fuels and hinders him as he unravels the secrets of Cross College.
In too far to "wash his hands of the mystery," Pilate risks death as he pits forces against each other to get to the truth of what really happened in 1963 and why it is still just as deadly 40 years later.
